I can't believe that it has been over a year since my last post. So many things going on, especially since the last book came out.
Several thoughts to restart our conversations:
1- This is a very volatile time, with the administration about to change. My best guess is that there will be some sort of flareup so that our opponents can see what the new President is made of in resolve. With all the rhetoric of the campaign, one would expect that he will try to make some sort of contacts, but I think the idea of actually becoming presidential will fashion his thoughts and they will get no better from him than they did with President Bush. it must be air in the oval office.
2- Far more pressing and concerning is the economy, and the immense amount of US debt held by foreign citizens and governments--especially China. Some of that debt is also in the Mideast, and bet that it will be put in play to embarass the new administration.
3- Expect to see increased pressures in Afghanistan and from North Korea (Which just days ago closed its border with the South again).
